Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Ten

Happy Sunday Everyone!

We made it!!  It's day ten of our look at the Pantone 2014 Spring Colors!  I've had fun walking through this group of colors.  It's made me remember how much I love a variety of color and not just one color family (even though I really am a pastels kind of girl).  Our final color today is called Dazzling Blue.  It is a beauty!

I found a couple of things in my handmade and supply inventory that echo this color.  I actually have some card stock that nearly matches Dazzling Blue perfectly, but I don't have anything made with it right now!  Let's take a look at what I did find!

This little lip balm holder on the left is a cute little item.  Great for a stocking stuffer, teacher gift, etc.  The ribbon unties to open and reveal and full sized lip balm inside.

The silver and blue beads on the right don't exactly match Dazzling Blue, but they are plenty dazzling!!

Well, I am off to finish getting ready for church.  Amid all the hustle and bustle and commercialism that surrounds us at this time of year, I hope you take time to reflect and remember what the season is REALLY about.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. Luke 2:8-11 NIV

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Nine

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Welcome to day nine of our journey through Pantone's 2014 Spring colors.  I hope I haven't bored you to tears these past few days!

Today is extra special because the color we are featuring, Radiant Orchid, has been chosen as the Color of the Year!  Pink, purple and fuchsia all rolled together.  Who could ask for more??      Woo hoo!

According to Pantone's press release
“While the 2013 color of the year, PANTONE 17-5641 Emerald, served as a symbol of growth, renewal and prosperity, Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

“An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm.”

Hmm, well, ok.....seems like a mouthful for one little color.  ;)

I knew immediately a pair of earrings in my inventory that echoed Radiant Orchid. These luscious beauties are made with stunning Swarosvki 18mm Graphic beads in light amethyst as well as amethyst Swarovski bicones.  The color is a bit muted in this picture....they are brighter in person.  Delicious!!

Do you like the 2014 Color of The Year??  Are you a purple/pink/fuchsia lover?  Comment below and let me know what you think!

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Eight

Happy Friday Everyone!

Here we are at day eight of our journey through the Pantone 2014 Spring colors.  Today's color is called Celosia Orange

I admit I had to look up what celosia was, but when I saw the pictures, it was an "ah ha" moment.  If they'd just said cockscomb, I would have known!  ;)

By now, you probably know my routine with this.  I've rummaged through my supply and handmade inventory to see what I have the matches or at least falls in the same family as Celosia Orange.  I thought I still had some orange and white very cool two tone beads in my supply store, but no such luck.  So we're looking at some earrings and a paper craft item today.

Although not quite the right color, these earrings do hint at our feature color with the lucite flowers and czech cube beads.  Sweet little earrings, don't you think?

Ah ha!  This little notes booklet is much more in the ballpark.  Talk about bright and cheery!!

I've never really thought of myself as an orange person, and yet, I love fall colors.  How about you?  Are you an orange person?  Do you have items in your stash in the Celosia Orange family?  Comment below and let me know!

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Seven

Happy Thursday Everyone!

Well, here we are at day seven of our journey exploring the Pantone 2014 Spring colors

Today's color is called Cayenne.  It's a bit spicy, a bit bright, and loads of fun!

Once again I headed to my supply and handmade inventory items to see what might be lurking there that would fall in the Cayenne family.  Surprisingly, I found quite a few things.  I say surprisingly because typically I'm a pastels kind of girl.  But I love color, so I guess I shouldn't have been that surprised!

This little desk calendar has pops of a similar color, although it's a bit more on the rust side.

I think this color matches more closely.  Boy, I did a bunch of marker coloring and "huffing" on that focal image!  :)

Can you believe this is made from one sheet of 12 x 12 designer series paper?
Matching pull out tags add to the fun!

What do you think of Cayenne?  Do you find that you lean toward certain colors or families of colors over others?  Comment below and let me know your signature color!

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Six

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

It's time for our day six installation of the Pantone Spring 2014 Color series.  Today's color is called Freesia, and it's a bright one!  Makes me think more of summer than spring.

Did you know freesia is actually a flower that has many bloom color varieties?  Of course, we are concentrating on the yellow variety today.  Aren't they pretty???  According to Wikipedia, yellow is the color of goldbutter, or ripe lemons.  In the spectrum of visible light, and in the traditional color wheel used by painters, yellow is located between green and orange.  Yellow is commonly associated with gold, wealth, sunshine, reason, happiness, optimism and pleasure, but also with cowardice, envy, jealousy and betrayal.

So what did I find in my inventory of supplies or handmade items that echos this color?  I found an appropriately bright little magnetic calendar I made recently.  The fact that is has flowers on it only made it even more the perfect candidate for Freesia.

In fact, this calendar could also make a repeat appearance in a couple of days when we feature Celosia Orange!

So how do you feel about Freesia?  Is it a color you use in your crafting?  Please comment below and let me know!

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Five

Happy Tuesday Everyone!

Today is part five of our continuing series on the Pantone 2014 Spring Colors. Today's color is Sand.  I love this color.  It's such a wonderful and easy accent to use with everything!

Although Sand is a neutral, I've always felt colors in this family could stand all on their own.  I love working with neutrals in my card making.  Not surprisingly when I looked through my inventory to see what I had in this color family, it was no problem to find many items!  I've selected three cards to show you today.

This lovely card is blank on the inside for writing your own personal message.  In this electronic age, it's a delight to get genuine snail mail!   The color on the base is called Crumb Cake in Stampin' Up lingo!
This is one of my favorite Christmas cards.  I've again used Crumb Cake as the base.  I love this stamp also.  It's one of the oldest stamp sets in the Stampin' Up catalog and still going strong.
Here's another pretty Christmas card using Crumb Cake as the base of the card.

How do you feel about Sand and neutrals in general?  Share you comments below!

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Four

Happy Monday Everyone!

It's Day Four of our series highlighting the 2014 Pantone Spring colors.  Today's color is Paloma, a lovely medium gray.  I love pairing gray with many colors, but especially with pinks.  I remember having a gray corduroy blazer when I was in high school that I wore a lot.  Man, was that a long time ago!

As I was digging through my inventory of handmade jewelry and paper crafted items, it seems everything I have done with tones of gray has sold.  I guess that tells you something about the popularity and timelessness of a gray or black and white combination.  Some things will always stand the test of time.  In light of that, today I am showing you some of my favorite beads!

These are multicolor stardust beads.  This assortment has some beautiful colors, including a silver and gray version that fit nicely with our Paloma theme today.  I just love these sweet beads!

By the way, have you ever wondered whether it is g-r-e-y or g-r-a-y??  Well, I did a little bit of snooping this morning, and it seems g-r-a-y is the "American" version, while g-r-e-y is the English version (as in Earl Grey tea and England).

Let me know what you think of Paloma and whether you spell it g-r-e-y or g-r-a-y !!

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Three

Happy Sunday Everyone!

Today we continue our excursion through Pantone's 2014 Spring Colors.  Third from the left, we're exploring Hemlock.  I'm not sure why, but that word makes me think of something along the line of witches and warlocks.

 According to dictionary.com, hemlock is:

  noun

1.
a poisonous plant, Conium maculatum,  of the parsley family, having purple-spotted stems, finelydivided leaves, and umbels of small white flowers, used medicinally as a powerful sedative.
2.
a poisonous drink made from this plant.
3.
any of various other plants, especially of the genus Cicuta,  as the water hemlock.
4.
Also called hemlock spruce. any of several coniferous trees of the genus Tsuga,  native to the U.S.,characterized by a pyramidal manner of growth. Compare eastern hemlockwestern hemlock.
5.
the soft, light wood of a hemlock tree, used in making paper, in the construction of buildings, etc.

Well, now that we have that out of the way, let's see what I have in my supply or handmade stash that would fit in this color category.  This was a tough color for me.  I have lots of green stuff, but nothing that quite matches Hemlock.  So let's pretend I'm taking "poetic license" with this color interpretation, ok???

Well now, the green is a bit bright on this one wine charm.  It's not quite that bright in person, so I must have gotten carried away when I edited this picture.  Shame on me!

This faceted rondelle is more along the lines of peridot green.  Hey, I said this was a struggle for me!

Now this green is a little closer and more true-to-life. Tea for two, anyone???

How about you?  What do you think of Hemlock and do you presently have anything that color????

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day Two

Happy Saturday Everyone!

Today is the second installment of my series highlighting the Pantone 2014 Spring Colors.  I still can't help by wonder how a person gets to be an "Influencer" as is shown on the Pantone page.  Must they all be so young looking???

Ah well.....onward and upward.....

Today we're looking at the second color from the left......Violet Tulip.  A very pretty color, but the name conjures of images of two flowers who collided....sorry....I have a bit of a warped sense of humor!

As you may recall from yesterday's post, I'm on a bit of a mission to see what supply items or handmade items I already have in my inventory that reflect these 2014 colors.  Today I bring you two different pairs of earrings.

The lovely butterfly earrings are made with Swarovski butterflies and bicones in a shade they call Provence Lavender.  The sweet snowflake earrings on the right feature a glass splatter bead and Swarovski bicones in a color they call tanzanite.  All fall nicely in the Violet Tulip neck of the woods!

So what do you have in your stash that fits this color profile?  Comment below and let me know how you feel about the 2014 colors!

Pantone 2014 Color Series - Day One

Happy Friday Everyone!

So I was looking at the Spring Pantone color report, and a thought occurred to me.  Do you think they just have all of the color chips in a basket and randomly pull out the requisite number and POOF have their color forecast??

Color and fashion forecasting seems to be big business.  Whether or not we believe or rely on those so-called trends, playing along can bring added traffic to our online shops.  So, in the spirit of playing along, I decided to see what handmade or supply items I have already that match up fairly nicely with the spring colors and do a little series of blog posts.  So fasten your seat belts -- here we go!!

The first color on the left of the chart is called Placid Blue.  For some reason that immediately made me think of when the Winter Olympics were held in Lake Placid.  I've always loved blue and I'm sure I have something in my stash that pairs with this color.  Let's take a look!

Ok, not an exact match, but in the ballpark.  I love these little snowflake earrings, with just a little pop of blue to make them all cheery and icy at the same time!

What do you have in your stash that looks like Placid Blue??  Be sure to comment and let me know what you think.

Next in the series.......Violet Tulip.  Stay tuned!

WOYWW 236

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

It's that time of the week when we indulge in whatever voyeuristic tendencies we may have!  What fun to pop around the globe and sneak a peek at other creative desks!  This is all courtesy of the lovely Ms. Julia at Stamping Ground.  Be sure you pop over there and look around.  Heck, snap a pic and add your desk as well!

My desk looks remarkably clean, and with good reason.....I've been cleaning!  Amazing, huh?!?!?  I'll never know why, but cleaning the craft room seems to generate a bigger mess than I started with.  (Side note....I am preparing to mess the whole thing up again making magnetic 2014 calendars, so my glory is short lived.)

And just why am I cleaning, you might be wondering (or not) ???  Well, tonight I'm going to be one of the featured artists on the weekly live broadcast from The Craft Star!  Yikes!  That means being on camera!  Maybe you could come and give me moral support???  You can either view it on their home page or their Google + event page.

Don't forget to visit Stamping Ground and see all the wonderful artists who have linked up there!
