Hello everyone. It's been a rather stressful week around here. We're still waiting to hear if my husband has been selected for a promotion, which involves another transfer. I've been battling wicked allergy sinus problems, and I am just SOOOO ready for this week to be over. So to de-stress, I made myself do some stamping tonight.
I decided to take on Friday Mashup challenge #2. Not so much because of the layout, but because I was intrigued by the suggested color combo of Marina Mist, Cajun Craze and Crumb Cake. All great colors, but I'm not sure I would have thought to put them together. I seem to always gravitate to the subtles group, so it was a fun change of pace to take a subtle, a neutral and a regal and play!
Here is the sketch from Friday Mashup that I followed.
Once I decided on how I would use the colors, including a piece of the new Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper (love that stuff!), I then had to figure out what stamped images to use. As one of my free sets during Sale-A-Bration, I had selected "Happy Together" but I had never used it yet. I'd been thinking a lot about those little birdies and how I could use them. And as you can see, I turned the whole design sideways. Here's what I came up with. What do you think?
I even gave the inside some love. I always feel like a dark card base needs a lighter interior for the greeting or personal message someone will add.
I did my usual sponging of edges .. I seem to do that a lot. I also pulled out the Color Spritzer Tool and my Marina Mist marker to add some small splashes of color.
I did a little sneeky Pete cheat as well. Most of the entries have included a punched scallop edge of some sort. But I decided to take the "stem" stamp from Happy Together and stamp at the very edge of the Marina Mist layer. I thought it looked kind of scallopy (yes, I'm making up words again) without doing any punching.
Well, I hope you enjoyed my little expedition in colors this evening. I hope everyone has a blessed Easter holiday.
Thanks for looking at my blog. I appreciate all the wonderful comments everyone leaves. Happy Stamping!
This is adorable! The spritzing adds a great subtle touch. I also always line the inside of my dark cards...and adding bird inside was a great idea.

ReplyDeleteFantastic card!! I am SO with you on the edge sponging...my daughter yells at me because I hate to leave edges plain. If I dont sponge them I feel like I havent finished the card.
