WOYWW 146 and Friday Mashup #50

Happy Wednesday Everyone!  It was nice to not wake up to severe storms and power outages this morning!

It's Wednesday, and that means it's time for our globe-trotting peek at creative desks courtesy of Julia at Stamping Ground.  My room looks a bit better than last week's pre-craft-booth-set up frenzy!  (Check out a few posts back for pictures of my display after we set it up this weekend.)

This picture of my desk shows the work in progress for this week's challenge at The Friday Mash Up.  They are celebrating challenge #50 with some great blog candy, a versatile sketch mashed up with the Faux Mother-of-Pearl technique.  I had never heard of this technique, and didn't have the proper supplies for it either.  The instructions I followed called for using shimmer paint.  Instead, I took my vanilla smooch spritz and "spritzed" a puddle on a small piece of acetate and sponged from there with plastic wrap onto a piece of glossy card stock.  After it dried, I stamped images over it with black Staz On and then sponged color over the images prior to punching them out.  I'm not sure if this is how it's supposed to look, but the result I got kind of reminded me of batik or even tie-dye to some degree.  See what you think:

Oh my, love that glare off the glossy cardstock!!  I'm not entirely happy with this card.  Not sure why, but something about it just doesn't sit right with me.  Oh well, I guess for an experiment with a new technique, it's ok.

Be sure to pop over to The Friday Mash Up to see the other great cards, and head over to Julia's to see what my crafty counterparts are up to!

Thanks for looking at my blog. I appreciate all the wonderful comments everyone leaves. Happy Stamping!

  2. I love how this came out... I like that you used color over the Pearl effect and What a unique way to create this technique using what you have.. I think the Smooch works perfectly... It really is the same as shimmer paint just a big thinner. Thanks for joining us at the Friday Mashup this week and helping us celebrate #50.

  5. Whoa, two desks in a row with a "towel rod" and baskets hanging from it. Good idea for punches too. I've been ogling those but lack the wall space to hang it. That is an interesting technique you tried out. I like the end result but so much to do to get there. That's probably why I'm not a technique person. Judy #134

  9. I love rain and the 'distant' sound of thunder, anything that causes power outages is too severe! Hope your weather turns better, waving hi from the hills of North Carolina :)

  20. #141 I'm still making my way 'round last Wednesday's WOYWW ... I see you have one of those rod and basket thingies, too. I think that's very clever and I think you are very clever for coming up with a go-around to make your challenge card. Good job!

  21. Great workspace. I like your card, but it is frustrating to find a new technique and then found out you don't have the proper supplies! But I think it looks great anyway. #174
